The fibularis brevis
Fibularis brevis · musculus fibularis brevis
A short outer leg muscle that turns the sole outwards and protects the ankle.
What it does
The fibularis brevis lies under the fibularis longus and runs behind the outer ankle to the base of the fifth metatarsal. It turns the sole outwards and resists the ankle rolling inwards. A bad ankle sprain can pull a flake of bone off where it attaches.
