Accessibility
We want everyone to be able to read about the body, whether or not you can use the 3D view.
Our target
Everything outside the 3D view (menus, search, cards, tours, dialogs and these pages) aims to meet WCAG 2.2 AA. We check this with automated axe-core tests on every page type for every release, keyboard-only tests of every feature, a colour-vision simulation of the body-system colours, and manual screen-reader passes with VoiceOver and NVDA.
What works today
- Every part has a readable card, reachable without the 3D view through search or Menu → Browse all parts.
- Keyboard: every control can be used with a keyboard. Press ? in the app for the full list of shortcuts.
- Screen readers: cards are plain, structured text, and the app announces the selected part.
- Reduced motion: if your device asks for reduced motion, the camera jumps instead of flying, and nothing pulses or spins.
- Zoom: pages reflow at 200% zoom without sideways scrolling.
- Colour: text meets WCAG 2.2 AA contrast in light and dark themes, and selection uses an outline as well as colour.
- Readable pages: every part also has its own page that works without JavaScript.
Known limits
The 3D view itself can't be fully described by a screen reader. We use the browse list and cards as the main way in, rather than trying to narrate the model.
Classroom mode
Classroom mode makes all text and buttons at least 1.5× larger for projectors and large screens.
