The hamate (wrist bone)
Hamate bone · os hamatum
A wedge-shaped wrist bone with a hook you can feel at the base of your palm.
What it does
The hamate sits on the little-finger side of the second row of wrist bones. A hook-shaped projection sticks out into the palm and helps form the tunnel for the ulnar nerve. The hook can break in golfers and tennis players when a club or racket handle presses against it.
